Project WINGS - More than 2,200 Georgians have received more than 2.1 million in grants to create productive wildlife lands.
Project WINGS
Transmission lines are essential to power our homes, businesses, and factories. Underneath these lines are thousands of acres of idle land.
Recognizing the potential these acres offer wildlife, Georgia Power and the Two Rivers Resource Conservation and Development Council launched PROJECT WINGS (Wildlife Incentives for Nongame and Game Species) in the fall of 1996. Georgia Transmission Corporation, MEAG (Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia) and Atlanta Gas Light have since joined this statewide wildlife initiative.
The project provides cash grants up to $1,500, along with wildlife planning assistance from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (See Link Below), to groups and individuals interested in managing these electrical transmission rights-of-way for a three-year period.
To date, over 2,200 Georgians have received grants to create more than 15,000 acres of new wildlife habitat. Georgians can be proud of this cooperative government and private sector partnership........A partnership that ensures more power.......more wildlife!
