Erosion and Sedimentation Control
                                  Certification Courses

 

The Georgia Erosion and Sedimentation Control Act (GESA) as last amended in 2004 requires all persons involved in land development, design, review, permitting, construction, monitoring, inspection, or any land disturbing activity in Georgia be state certified by a GSWCC approved training organization. In addition, certified individuals must complete the four-hour re-certification course every three years.

The Two Rivers RC&D Council is a GSWCC approved training organization and offers both certification and re-certification courses throughout West Central Georgia.

Depending upon your particular job, you must attend and successfully pass a formal exam for one or more of the courses.  However, there is no exam for the re-certification course. Participants who successfully complete the state required courses will be issued a color-coded ID card.  Below is the list of approved courses along with professions affected by the law.

Approved Courses
Level 1A – Fundamentals Course
This one-day course is the most widely required since it affects general contractors, builders, developers, site superintendents, grading and utility contractors, local governments, and monitoring consultants.  

Eligibility Requirements
Ø      
You must submit an application and prepay the $145.00 registration fee (includes course materials and lunch)
Ø       You must present a photo ID on the day of the course and exam
Ø      
You must complete a written exam and achieve a passing score of 70 or higher

Level 1A - Re-Certification Course
This four-hour course is required by law for certified individuals every three years to maintain their certification status.

Eligibility Requirements
  Ø  According to State law, a certified individual shall be required to attend and participate in at least four
        hours of approved continuing education courses, as established by the Commission, every three years.
        (O.C.G.A. 12-7-19)
  Ø  You must submit an application and prepay the $75.00 registration fee (includes course materials
        and break)

  Ø  You must present a photo ID and a current certification card on the day of the course
  Ø  There is no exam for this course


Level 1B – Advanced Fundamentals Course
This is a two-day course designed to train regulatory enforcement inspectors and non-regulatory personnel inspectors contracted to do regulatory work to accurately inspect land disturbance areas for compliance with state erosion and sedimentation laws. The course will cover several topics such as the role of the inspector, ES&PC planning and review, and local program overview criteria.

Eligibility Requirements
Ø      
You must submit an application and prepay the $225.00 registration fee (includes course materials and lunch)
Ø You must have at least 60 days of work experience in the field of erosion and sediment control. In lieu of 60 days work experience, an individual may obtain Level 1A certification
Ø    You must attend a 2 day (16 hour) certification course
Ø       You must present a photo ID and score 70 or above on the certification exam

  


LEVEL 1A - FUNDAMENTALS OF EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL

Level 1A - Fundamentals Course - one-day course with exam - REGISTRATION FORM

      This one day course is the most widely required since it affects general contractors, builders, developers, site superintendents, grading and utility contractors, local governments, and monitoring consultants. Topics covered in this course are fundamentals of erosion and sediment control, the Georgia Erosion and Sedimentation Act, NPDES Permits, field maintenance, stream buffers, vegetative and structural BMP practices

Requirements for Level 1A Certification

  • You must submit an application and prepay the $145.00 registration fee

  • You must present a photo ID on the day of the course and exam

  • You must complete a written exam and achieve a passing score of 70 or higher


LEVEL 1A - RE-CERTIFICATION

Level 1A - Re-Certification Course - four hour course - no exam - REGISTRATION FORM

      This is a four-hour course. According to state law, certified individuals are required to attend and participate in at least four hours of approved continuing education courses, as established by the Commission, every three years. (O.C.G.A. 12-7-19).
Topics covered in this course are the Georgia Erosion and Sedimentation Act, NPDES, state waters and stream buffers and common issues on site.
